Spiritual Direction

What is Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is time spent on the sacred ground of your soul with another—a person who listens deeply and is present to both you and God alongside you. The spiritual director simply holds space for your story, your emotions, and your experience (or the lack thereof) with God.

I love watching American Ninja Warriors.  A spiritual director is like a Ninja Warrior coach, guiding you through each wild and unpredictable obstacle in life. My job isn’t to run the course for you, but to walk (or run!) with you through the toughest challenges and greatest joys in your faith. I will encourage you to flex new spiritual muscles and grow stronger with each attempt. When fatigue sets in or you’re ready to give up, I will remind you of your belovedness. I will help you see creative routes you might have missed or help you to figure out new ways to move through your relationship with God; Spiritual Direction might show you ways to adapt when your usual moves don’t work.

Through it all, a spiritual director ixss a steady presence — not offering easy answers, but helping you find your own footing to keep moving toward the finish with hope.

Spiritual direction is not a new thing. It has been practiced for millennia in different ways and in different Christian traditions.  Spiritual Direction is simply accompanying another on their spiritual journey

What Do We Talk About

We talk about anything and everything related to your experience of God. Spiritual Direction is not therapy or remedial. It differs from coaching in that it is not focused on setting measurable goals.

We talk about struggles, pain, and areas you want to overcome. Sometimes we celebrate! We will pay attention to what it is like for you to experience or not experience God in the midst of your everyday life.

The expectation is that you come prepared to talk about what you are noticing in your soul and your current relationship with God
